Reference Images
Primary photos taken by me or friends and family have been a main component in my project, as they provide the reference for all the portraits within the tapestry. It was important selecting these photos as they have been captured in real moments and portray true feelings. All the photos taken and used have come from during the course of the pandemic, and add to the personal element of my tapestry.
When drawing out these photos to use in the tapestry, it was decided whether they would be a print, painting or sewn portrait. This was chosen based on if the photo was colourful and should be portrayed in a painting. Or if the photo had many small details that could be effectively shown through prints or if the photo had a basic shape and could be made into a sewn portrait. The selection process was thought through in detail, which aided the reflective theme in the project. It being a reflection of experiences during the pandemic, looking through the photos provided happy memories and acted as a therapy.
